All To Drive Future Policing As IGP Moves To Redefine Southeast Security Architecture

The future of policing in Nigeria may be taking a new direction as the Nigeria Police Force has unveiled plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence and advanced intelligence-driven strategies into security operations, beginning with stronger engagement across the South-East region.

This emerged during an operational tour of the South-East geopolitical zone by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-East, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, during a visit to the Anambra State Police Command on Monday.

The initiative forms part of a nationwide strategy aimed at strengthening security architecture, improving operational efficiency and creating a coordinated approach to tackling evolving security threats.

Addressing officers and men of the command, the DIG stressed the need for practical intelligence-led interventions tailored to the peculiar security realities of Anambra State and the wider South-East region.

He explained that the Nigeria Police Force is preparing its personnel for the future by introducing Artificial Intelligence into investigative processes and creating specialized training programmes focused on technological applications in modern policing.

Beyond technology, the DIG also challenged officers to uphold professionalism, accountability and respect for human rights while sustaining a people-centred policing approach capable of improving public trust.

Welcoming the police delegation, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the vision of the Inspector-General in deepening community-based policing and strengthening security mechanisms across the state.

The visit also provided a platform for strategic discussions among security stakeholders on intelligence sharing, crime prevention and coordinated responses to emerging security challenges confronting the South-East.

Observers believe the move signals a gradual transition from conventional policing methods to a more technology-driven security framework aimed at improving safety and supporting socio-economic development across the region
