The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has called for the establishment of structured media teams among Nigerians in the diaspora to counter misinformation and promote the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Yilwatda made the call during a Strategic Global Diaspora Conference organised by the Directorate of Diaspora and Global Affairs of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors.
In a post seen on the X handle of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission on Thursday, Yilwatda said there was a need for greater unity among diaspora communities and more effective communication of government reforms and achievements to project a positive image of Nigeria globally.
According to him, organised media structures within diaspora communities would help tackle what he described as false narratives about the country while highlighting the gains of the Tinubu administration.
“There is a need for unity among diaspora communities, effective communication of government reforms and achievements as well as the establishment of structured media teams to counter misinformation and wrong narratives while promoting Nigeria’s achievements and image globally,” he said.
The APC chairman also urged Nigerians abroad to participate actively in voter education, investment mobilisation and the promotion of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, who is the Deputy Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, described diaspora involvement in the organisation’s activities as strategic and crucial to grassroots mobilisation efforts.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, also advocated the creation of a strong media team involving young Nigerians to showcase government achievements and counter misinformation.
Similarly, the Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor and Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Lagos State, Tayo Ayinde, highlighted some of the administration’s achievements, including economic reforms, infrastructure development, Shell’s renewed investments in Nigeria and the implementation of interest-free student loans through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
In her remarks, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, pledged to engage APC members in the diaspora through improved communication and policy dissemination strategies.
Participants at the virtual conference also pledged support for the administration and promised to mobilise members towards achieving the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
