The ancient town of Idah, the traditional headquarters of the Igala Kingdom, came alive with celebration as dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders and supporters from across Kogi State and beyond gathered for the coronation of renowned philanthropist, Prince Olatunji Olusoji, as the Ene-Umola Ata-Igala, a prestigious title that translates to “Companion and Partner of the Attah.”
The revered traditional title was conferred on Prince Olusoji by the Attah Igala, His Majesty Alhaji Matthew Opaluwa Oguche Akpa, during a colourful ceremony that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Igala Kingdom and underscored the spirit of unity among the people of Kogi State.
Speaking at the event, the Attah Igala said the honour was in recognition of Prince Olusoji’s unwavering commitment to humanity and his numerous philanthropic interventions that have positively impacted lives across communities.
According to the paramount ruler of Igala land, reports of the Asiwaju of Ayere Land’s humanitarian activities and dedication to the welfare of the people informed the decision of the Igala Kingdom to bestow the distinguished title on him.
“This honour is in recognition of his selfless service to humanity. We believe it will encourage him to do even more for the people and continue his contributions to societal development,” the Attah stated.
Kogi State governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, who was represented by his deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, described the title as one that symbolises trust, partnership, goodwill and an enduring commitment to the service of humanity.
He said the honour was both distinguished and well deserved, noting that it aligns with his administration’s vision of promoting unity and strengthening the One Kogi State agenda.
Governor Ododo stressed that the state’s collective identity transcends ethnic differences, urging citizens to continue to see Kogi’s diversity as a source of strength rather than division.
“The conferment of this title on Prince Olatunji Olusoji is a clear demonstration that unity is achievable. It is a recognition that cuts across ethnic boundaries and further reinforces the bond among the various groups that make up our great state,” the governor said.
Also speaking, the Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, commended the Attah Igala and the entire Igala Kingdom for honouring an illustrious son of Okunland, describing the gesture as a reflection of the enduring unity and mutual respect among the various ethnic groups in Kogi State.
In his acceptance speech, Prince Olusoji expressed profound gratitude to the Attah Igala and the Igala Kingdom for finding him worthy of the prestigious title.
He pledged to remain committed to the ideals of service, development and unity, assuring the kingdom of his continued support for its growth.
“Having become a bona fide son of the Igala Kingdom, I will continue to stand with the people and provide support whenever the need arises. I will strive to be a worthy ambassador of this great kingdom and ensure that more communities across Kogi State benefit from my humanitarian initiatives,” he said.
Prince Olusoji also called on citizens to continue supporting both the state and federal governments to enable them to deliver more dividends of democracy.
He further urged affluent individuals and other stakeholders to complement government efforts by investing in community-based development projects capable of improving the lives of the people, stressing that government alone cannot meet all developmental needs.
The event attracted an array of distinguished personalities, including lawmakers, commissioners, local government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Among the royal fathers in attendance were the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni, and the Elulu of Mopa, Oba Muyiwa Ibeun, alongside other prominent traditional rulers whose presence added colour and prestige to the occasion.
The coronation underscored the enduring values of unity, service and cultural harmony in Kogi State, while reaffirming Prince Olusoji’s growing reputation as a philanthropist and advocate of community development.
