Kebbi State Government, through a high-powered delegation led by Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, on Saturday visited Wasagu District in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area to commiserate with residents over a recent deadly bandit attack.
The delegation was dispatched by Governor Nasir Idris following the attack on Unguwan Dutse in Wasagu Town, where armed men suspected to be bandits reportedly stormed the community at night, killing two persons, injuring several others, and abducting six residents after invading through a forest axis believed to extend into neighbouring Zamfara State.
During the visit, Senator Tafida conveyed the governor’s condolences to the affected families and the entire community, assuring them of renewed government efforts to strengthen security across the area.
He announced immediate security reinforcement measures, including the deployment of a Mobile Police Barracks to the district and plans to establish a Forward Operating Base to enhance rapid response operations and improve surveillance in vulnerable communities.
The Deputy Governor assured residents that the government was taking additional steps to safeguard lives and property, urging them to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies in addressing the security challenges.
He also prayed for the repose of those who lost their lives in the attack, wished the injured a speedy recovery, and announced support for affected families to cushion the impact of the incident.
The Commissioner for Internal Security, Hon. Haliru Magaji Wasagu, confirmed that two persons were killed and several others sustained injuries in the attack, describing it as unfortunate and deeply concerning.
He said Governor Nasir Idris remained fully committed to restoring peace in the area and had directed security agencies to intensify operations aimed at preventing further attacks.
The Chief of Wasagu, Alhaji Mukhtar Musa Muhammad, expressed concern over the rising wave of insecurity in the district, particularly along border communities linking Zamfara State, and called for increased security presence.
Other members of the government delegation included commissioners and senior officials from key ministries, who also expressed solidarity with the affected communities.
