A Political Scientist and the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) candidate for the Delta North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, Hon. Bob Clifford Ifechukwude Ofunne, has reaffirmed his commitment to providing intellectual and people-centered leadership for the district, promising to champion policies that address development, security, economic growth, and democratic accountability.
Daily Independent learnt this from Bob Clifford, Ifechukwude Ofunne, in a telephone conversation with our reporter today, being on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, as Hon. Ofunne described the beginning of a new month as an opportunity for renewed commitment to service, responsibility, and the pursuit of a more prosperous Delta North.
In the words of Bob Clifford Ifechukwude Ofunne: “My participation in the senatorial race is rooted in over two decades of active engagement in the political development of Delta North and a lifelong commitment to democratic ideals”. I am running for the Senate to represent the people of Delta North in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly. Following a successful primary election, I am deeply grateful to the leadership of the PRP, party members, supporters, and the good people of Delta North for the confidence they have reposed in me. The primaries are over; the mission has begun. My vision is to promote democracy, accountability, good governance, and sustainable progress”.
“This is a call to greater service and responsibility. I urge all our people to join hands with me as we work together to build a stronger and more prosperous Delta North. My background as a Political Scientist has shaped my belief that leadership must be anchored on knowledge, integrity, competence, and service to the common good. As the founding Member of The True Democrats (TTD), I was inspired by the conviction that democracy should serve as a tool for the liberation and empowerment of citizens rather than merely a vehicle for political competition. As the PRP candidate, my commitment remains unwavering”.
“My objective is to help redeem the people’s mandate and ensure that representation in the Senate truly reflects the aspirations, hopes, and interests of our people. The challenges facing Delta North require more than political rhetoric. Addressing issues of development, security, education, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and economic growth demands strategy, foresight, and a clear understanding of the needs of the people.”
The PRP candidate emphasized that his ambition is driven not by personal gain but by a desire to provide purposeful representation and a stronger voice for Delta North at the national level”.
“I am not contesting this election in pursuit of power for its own sake. I am running because I believe the voice of Delta North deserves to be heard, respected, and championed with intellectual rigor, courage, and passion. Hon. Ofunne also used the opportunity to appeal to constituents across the district to actively participate in the democratic process by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). I want to urge every eligible citizen of Delta North to go and obtain their PVC. Democracy begins with participation, and participation begins with the power to vote. Your PVC is more than a card; it is your voice, your power, and your instrument for shaping the future of our communities.”
“We must ensure that every vote counts and urge citizens not to underestimate the value of their ballot. If anyone believes that votes do not count, they should ask themselves a simple question: Why do politicians work so hard to get them? The answer is obvious. Votes matter because they determine leadership. They determine who speaks for the people, who makes decisions on public resources, and who influences the future of our society.”
According to him, one of the greatest challenges facing democracy today is that many citizens have not fully appreciated the value and power of their votes”.
“We must educate ourselves and our communities about the true worth of the ballot. A vote is worth far more than temporary gifts, cash inducements, or election-day promises. The value of a vote is reflected in the quality of schools our children attend, the condition of our roads, the safety of our communities, the opportunities available to our youth, and the future we leave behind for generations yet unborn. I further call on voters to reject the culture of vote-buying and electoral manipulation.
“The era of buying and selling votes must come to an end. The era when some people believed elections could simply be determined by inducements or the writing of results is gradually fading away. Citizens are becoming more informed, more vigilant, and more determined to protect their democratic rights”.
“The future belongs to an enlightened electorate that understands the power of the ballot.” Calling for collective action, Hon. Ofunne appealed to people of goodwill, community leaders, youths, women, professionals, artisans, traders, farmers, and stakeholders across Delta North to unite behind a common vision of progress and development.
