DELTA: Police Rescue Kidnapped Victim, Arrest Suspected Armed Robbers, Recover Hard Drugs, Arms

The operatives of the Delta State Police Command said they have recorded operational successes in the campaign against violent crimes and other criminal activities across the State, resulting in the rescue of a kidnapped victim, the arrest of suspected armed robbers, and the recovery of a firearm and hard drugs.
These achievements were recorded in separate operations, Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command, has confirmed.
Edafe, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said the operatives of the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKU) successfully rescued a kidnap victim unhurt and without the payment of ransom.
He said the rescue followed a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
The operation, according to him, was launched following information received by the Command on June 11, 2026, regarding the kidnapping of a male victim by armed men at Okpanam on June 10, 2026, adding that while acting swiftly on the report, operatives deployed intelligence assets and commenced a strategic operation aimed at locating the victim and apprehending the perpetrators.
“As pressure mounted on the kidnappers through sustained intelligence gathering and operational deployment, the suspects abandoned the victim and fled from their hideout. The victim was rescued unhurt, debriefed, and reunited with his family.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects, while an investigation into the incident continues.”
In another operation, the PPRO said operatives of the Distress 01 Patrol Team attached to the Department of Operations, while on routine motorised patrol on June 12, 2026, at about 12.30 pm in Asaba, intercepted a tricycle with three occupants.
The suspects, according to him, were subjected to a search, during which one locally fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered.
He gave the identities of the suspects as Ewendeze De-Grace (19), Eruweghene Amede (20), and Chukwuemeka Arinze (21), adding that they were immediately arrested.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of the Aro Bagger Confraternity. The suspects and the recovered firearm are in custody while the investigation is ongoing.”
Edafe further disclosed that in continued efforts to curb drug-related crimes, operatives of the Kwale Division, while acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected drug distribution point in Kwale on June 10, 2026.
He said that upon sighting the operatives, two male suspects fled the premises, while one female suspect, identified as Ananyi Vivian, aged 45 years, was arrested.
Edafe disclosed that preliminary investigation revealed that the premises were being used for illicit drug-related activities, noting that during interrogation, the suspect admitted being aware of the illegal activities taking place at the location.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has commended the officers involved in the operations for their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to duty.
He reaffirmed the command’s unwavering resolve to combat all forms of crime and criminality and urged members of the public to continue to support the Police with timely and credible information that would aid ongoing efforts to keep Delta State safe and secure.
