DHQ Move To Rescue Ex-Defence Spokesman, Wife

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has ordered the deployment of intelligence assets following the abduction of a former Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar (retd.) and his wife in Katsina State.

Naijaonpoint reports that the retired senior military officer and his wife were abducted on Saturday by suspected terrorists in Matazu Local Government Area.

A senior military officer, who spoke in confidence with Vanguard, said troops were working around the clock to secure their release.

“We are working round the clock to rescue him,” the officer said.

The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, had earlier visited the scene of the incident.

He also ordered the deployment of additional personnel and assets to reinforce the ongoing search-and-rescue operation.

The police said efforts were being intensified to rescue the victims unhurt and arrest the perpetrators.

In a statement, the Katsina State Police Command confirmed that the attack occurred around 11 a.m. on May 30, 2026.

The statement signed by DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu read, “On May 30, 2026, at about 11.00 hrs, suspected armed bandits wielding dangerous weapons attacked a red Peugeot 406 saloon along Karaduwa-Matazu Road, Matazu LGA.

“The driver, one Abdullahi Sa’id, sustained a gunshot injury to the right arm.

“Two occupants, Abdullahi Batsari and Amina Abdullahi, were abducted before the arrival of security.”

The police said the Divisional Police Officer in Matazu responded swiftly with operatives, secured the scene and evacuated the injured driver for medical treatment.

Reports said the retired general was travelling with his wife from Abuja for the Eid al-Kabir celebration when they were intercepted along the Katsina-Matazu road.

Their vehicle was reportedly stopped by armed men, who took them to an unknown location. The driver escaped with a gunshot injury.
