BENIN – The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has reiterated its commitment to the full digitalization of the haulage and produce sector within Edo State.
The Executive Chairman of the EIRS, John Odior in a statement signed by Courage Eboigbe, Head, Corporate Communications & Taxpayers Enlightenment Service, stated that the new system for haulage administration and payment, which commenced on June 1, 2026, is now fully operational.
According to the statement, “Under this digital framework, haulage operators must fund their digital wallets through designated vendors.
“Payments are then validated by scanning a QR code sticker affixed to registered trucks, followed by an automated SMS confirmation of the transaction”.
The statement further emphasized that the use of Revenue Scratch Cards has been officially abolished.
Odior however warned that any individual found in possession of, selling, or issuing these banned cards will face immediate arrest and prosecution.
The revenue service chief noted that the current haulage fees in Edo State are aligned with the recent national tax reforms and remain the most competitive, compared to other states in the country.
He urged all stakeholders, including corporate organizations, transport haulage operators, and truck drivers, to comply with the new digital system to ensure a more efficient and prosperous Edo State.
