Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanon and called for the immediate and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from all Lebanese territory.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Abdelatty made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
Abdelatty stressed that any violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity or territorial integrity constitutes a breach of international law and of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
The Egyptian minister also reiterated Cairo’s full solidarity with Lebanon in confronting current security and political challenges.
According to ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of strengthening Lebanese state institutions, particularly the Lebanese Armed Forces, so they can exercise authority throughout Lebanese territory.
He further stressed the principle that the Lebanese state should maintain a monopoly on the use of force, describing it as essential for preserving security and stability, strengthening state institutions and protecting the interests and resources of the Lebanese people.
