Israeli opposition leader and former army chief Gadi Eisenkot has accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of failing to achieve the objectives of Israel’s military campaigns across the region.
In a statement posted on X on Monday, Eisenkot said:
“The Israeli government failed to achieve its war objectives on all fronts.”
Eisenkot argued that the government’s handling of multiple conflicts had allowed regional issues to become increasingly interconnected, particularly regarding Iran and Lebanon.
“The absence of a strategy has become a strategy in itself. Due to Netanyahu’s lack of political courage and his political weakness, he succeeded in linking the war fronts in an unprecedented way.”
The remarks came amid continuing political debate in Israel over the conduct and outcomes of military operations in several arenas, including Iran, Lebanon, Gaza, Yemen and the occupied West Bank.

Eisenkot specifically pointed to Iran’s role in linking developments in Lebanon to broader negotiations with the United States aimed at ending the conflict that began on 28th February.
His criticism follows a series of recent statements by Israeli opposition figures questioning the government’s military and diplomatic strategy. Opposition leaders have argued that despite prolonged military operations, key political and security objectives remain unresolved.
On Sunday evening, Israel carried out an air strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs that killed two people and wounded 11 others, according to Lebanese authorities.
Despite a ceasefire that began on 17th April, Israel continues its aggression against Lebanon, which began on 2nd March, resulting in 3,613 victims and 11,072 wounded, in addition to more than one million displaced persons.
