Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were seen monitoring activities around a polling centre in Ekiti State shortly after voting began at about 8:30 a.m.
The presence of the anti-graft agency followed the arrival of about 10 operatives at Polling Unit 003, located at the Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s polling unit in Okelele, Ward 06, Ikogosi, Ekiti West Local Government Area, at about 9:05 a.m. according to SaharaReporters.
The EFCC operatives were observed moving around the polling environment and observing electoral activities shortly after voting commenced.
Although the officials did not disclose the purpose of their deployment, their appearance came amid concerns over alleged vote-buying and other electoral malpractices in parts of the state.
Earlier reports indicated that voting had started peacefully at the governor’s polling unit, where only an agent of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was initially seen despite participation from several political parties.
The polling unit reportedly has 668 registered voters, according to available information.
As of the time of this report, the EFCC operatives were still stationed around the area, monitoring proceedings and engaging with security personnel deployed to the centre.
No arrests or disruptions were recorded during the visit.
The development comes amid heightened security presence and monitoring by law enforcement agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and election observers, following repeated warnings against vote-buying and other electoral offences.
The Ekiti State governorship election is ongoing across all 16 local government areas, with Governor Biodun Oyebanji seeking re-election against candidates from other political parties.
