ABUJA – The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has dismissed reports suggesting it has withdrawn from the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election, insisting that its candidate, Ambassador Isaac Adebayo Alade, remains firmly in the race despite what it described as attempts by political opponents to undermine the party.
In a statement issued by its National Headquarters on Friday, the party alleged that the withdrawal report was fabricated by political actors linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and individuals it described as impostors seeking to mislead voters ahead of the election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
The statement, signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, assured the electorate that the SDP remains on the ballot and that Ambassador Isaac Adebayo Alade is the duly nominated governorship candidate recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the party, Alade’s participation in the recent INEC Peace Accord signing further affirms his status as a legitimate contender in the election.
“The Ekiti electorate and members of the general public are hereby assured by the National Chairman, Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, and the National Working Committee (NWC), that the SDP is listed on the ballot and its candidate, Ambassador Isaac Adebayo Alade, remains strongly in contention for the election,” the statement said.
