PORT HARCOURT — Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has described fathers’ sacrifices as the force that holds families and society together, commending their unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of their homes despite prevailing economic and social challenges.
Marking the 2026 Father’s Day celebration, the governor paid tribute to fathers across Rivers State and Nigeria for their love, resilience, guidance and selfless dedication, noting that their daily sacrifices provide the foundation for stable families, peaceful communities and a stronger society.
The message, conveyed in a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, noted that Father’s Day offers an opportunity to recognise the often-unseen efforts and sacrifices fathers make to ensure the wellbeing of their children and loved ones.
Governor Fubara observed that fathers across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State continue to work tirelessly under difficult circumstances to provide for their families and secure a brighter future for the next generation.
He described a father’s love as a source of strength that is reflected in daily acts of sacrifice, responsibility, discipline, and compassion.
“A father’s love is quiet strength. It is the man who leaves home before dawn and returns after dusk so his children can eat and go to school. It is the man who denies himself so his family can have. It is the firm hand that corrects and the open arms that forgive. That love is the invisible thread that holds our homes together, and that sacrifice is the foundation of our society,” he said.
The governor further noted that many fathers endure hardship and difficult conditions in their determination to create better opportunities for their children, describing such commitment as true heroism.
He maintained that strong families are built on responsible fatherhood, adding that stable homes contribute to peaceful communities and sustainable development across the state.
Governor Fubara also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a Rivers State that reflects and rewards the hard work, resilience, and sacrifices of its people.
He prayed for God’s continued blessings, strength, good health, and long life for fathers, grandfathers, guardians, mentors, and all father figures.
Father’s Day is observed every third Sunday of June to celebrate and appreciate the important role fathers play in nurturing families and contributing to societal growth.
