Former APC Youth Leader Clinches NDC Governorship Ticket In Gombe

Former National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sadiq Abubakar, has clinched the governorship ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the forthcoming election in Gombe State.

Abubakar announced his emergence while speaking with journalists in Bauchi on Wednesday shortly after winning the party’s governorship primary election.

His victory comes weeks after he resigned from the APC, citing worsening economic hardship in the country and expressing dissatisfaction with the policies and programmes of the ruling party.

He also said his decision to join the NDC was driven by the need to operate in a political environment that guarantees free, fair and transparent primaries, allowing him to serve the people with integrity.

Reacting to his emergence, Abubakar expressed appreciation to the leadership of the party, delegates and supporters for the confidence reposed in him through the governorship ticket.

He described his nomination as both a mandate and a responsibility to the people of Gombe State.

“This honour is not mine alone. It belongs to every young person searching for opportunity, every farmer striving to earn a decent living, every mother hoping for a brighter future for her children, and every community yearning for development,” he said.

Abubakar also commended the NDC for what he described as its commitment to internal democracy and fairness in the conduct of its primaries.

“During my defection to the NDC, I stated that this is a political party where members are treated fairly and equally. It is a party where members’ mandates are neither stolen nor suppressed in favour of preferred individuals. Today, that conviction has been validated,” he added.

He pledged to work with stakeholders and supporters of the party across the state to build a broad-based political movement capable of delivering development and good governance to the people of Gombe State.
