Hijrah 1448AH: ADC Reps Candidate, Abidikugu Urges Prayers For Safe Return Of Abducted Oriire Victims On New Year Islamic Calendar

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), House of Representatives Candidate for Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East Federal Constituency, Dr Kazeem Adesina Abidikugu popularly known as KSO has admonished Nigerians to pray for the safe returns of the kidnapped pupils, students and teachers of Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

As he felicitated with Muslims in Oyo State and in Nigeria on the New Year Islamic Calendar, Hijrah 1448AH.

The Islamic New Year (Hijrah 1448 AH) falls on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, because Islamic days begin at sunset, the new year commenced on the evening of Monday, June 15.

Islamic New Year begins with the month of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar.

The Islamic New Year has been observed since 622 AD when the Muslims migrated from Makkah to Madina in the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This migration is known as the Hijra in Arabic.

In a statement he signed and made available to Journalists on Tuesday, Abidikugu wishes Muslims in Oyo State and Nigeria a happy and prosperous New Year.

He urged them to celebrate moderately and in consonance with the situation of high level of insecurity pervading the country.

Abidikugu who is a Nigerian United Kingdom based psychiatric consultant said the Muslims have every reasons to celebrate for the mercy of Allah who spared their lives to see a New Year.

He urges Muslims not to be disillusioned about the economic and security situation in the country, saying through their prayers, the Almighty Allah will return the country’s fortune and restore Nigeria’s lost glory.

Abidikugu, the Agba-Akin Bobajiro of Ibadanland called on the Muslims in Oyo State to use the occasion of the celebration of Hijrah 1448AH to pray for the safe returns of the kidnapped pupils, students and teachers of Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

“It is sad that as we are celebrating the Muslims New Year, pupils, students and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State are still in the thick forest with kidnappers.

“Our prayers should go to them. We should seek Allah’s favour for their safe return,” Abidikugu said.

He also called on Muslims to be tolerant of other religions adherents, saying the Holy Quran preaches love for one another.

“I rejoice with the Muslim Ummah in Oyo State and Nigeria. Happy celebration,” Abidikugu concluded his statement
