History Beckons As Prof. Olusola Oyero Delivers Anchor University’s Maiden Inaugural Lecture

Prof. Olusola Samuel Oyero, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Anchor University, Lagos, is set to deliver the institution’s maiden inaugural lecture.

The inaugural lecture marks another significant milestone in his distinguished academic career as a renowned scholar in Development Communication and Media Studies.

The inaugural lecture, titled “God’s Arrow and the Gongman: Reclaiming the Child in the Age of Media Spectacle,” will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the university Auditorium.

The event is expected to attract members of the academic community, media practitioners, students and other distinguished guests.

Oyero, a Professor of Development Communication and Media Studies in the Department of Mass Communication, is expected to draw from his decades of teaching, research and professional experience to examine the impact of the modern media environment on children and society.

The lecture is also expected to stimulate scholarly discourse and contribute fresh perspectives to media and communication studies.

In universities across the world, an inaugural lecture is regarded as one of the highest academic honours bestowed on a professor.

It formally introduces the scholar’s body of research to the university community while celebrating years of intellectual contributions, academic excellence and service.
