Insecurity: Labour Party candidate promises 20,000-man security outfit if elected Adamawa governor
Senator Ishaku Abbo, Labour Party governorship candidate, has unveiled a N150 billion security blueprint for Adamawa state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Abbo said the proposal, tagged the “SIA Security Plan”, is aimed at strengthening security across the state and creating an environment conducive to economic growth and investment.
In a statement on Sunday, the governorship hopeful said his administration would establish an Adamawa ministry of interior and internal security to coordinate a technology-driven security architecture.
“Security is the foundation upon which every prosperous society is built. Without security, farmers cannot farm, businesses cannot grow, investors cannot invest, and families cannot live in peace,” he said.
Abbo said his administration would create a 20,000-man Civilian JTF-styled Community Watch and Agro Rangers (CWAR) Brigade.
He added that the outfit would be transformed into the Adamawa state police service if constitutional provisions allowing state police are implemented.
“Subject to constitutional authorization of State Police as recently passed by the House of Representatives, my administration will transform the 20,000-man CWAR to Adamawa State Police Service deployed across all 226 wards and over 480 strategic communities in the state,” he said.
The former senator said the security framework would include ward-based security commands, anti-kidnapping units, border security commands, rapid response teams and a state security and intelligence agency.
Abbo also promised welfare packages, housing, health insurance and life insurance for security personnel serving in the state.
According to the former senator representing Adamawa north , traditional rulers would play a key role in intelligence gathering and community security.
The governorship hopeful said the plan includes the deployment of more than 1,000 patrol vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, motorcycles for rural operations, surveillance drones and a statewide CCTV network.
He added that a command and control centre would be established in Yola and linked to all 21 local government areas and 226 wards.
“A World-Class Command and Control Centre in Yola linked to all 21 Local Governments and 226 wards shall be established to monitor live video feeds coming from thousands of CCTV and drones,” he said.
Abbo said the objective is to move the state from a reactive approach to a preventive and offensive security strategy.
He added: “We will secure our farms. We will secure our schools. We will secure our highways. We will secure our communities. We will secure our borders.
“Together, we will build an Adamawa where every family can live, work, invest and prosper without fear. Adamawa will be the safest state in Nigeria.”
