Insecurity: Police Detain Four Pakistani Nationals Over Suspicious Activities in Ekiti

Four Pakistani nationals have been detained by Nigeria Police Force, Ekiti state command, following reports of their suspicious presence in Iyin-Ekiti, located in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the men were apprehended after residents expressed concerns over the presence of unfamiliar individuals in the community, creating tension among locals.

It was gathered that a distress call was received by the Iyin-Ekiti Police Division on June 9, prompting security operatives to mobilise to the area.

Upon arrival, police officers intercepted and arrested four men identified as Muhammad Yusuf, 47; Ghani Abdul, 36; Abdul Jabbar, 46; and Yusuf Muhammad, 47.

The suspects reportedly told investigators that they were Pakistani nationals who had travelled to Nigeria to sell mobile phones and engage in sightseeing activities.

However, police sources said the men could not provide satisfactory explanations or documentation regarding their activities and reasons for being in the community at the time of their arrest

The four individuals were subsequently taken into custody for further interrogation and verification of their identities and intentions.

According to the report, police authorities have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the suspects’ presence in the area and whether any laws were violated.

The command urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious movements and activities.

Police also reassured members of the public that necessary measures were being taken to safeguard lives and property across the state while investigations continue.
