Nollywood actor and filmmaker Rotimi Salami has responded to long-standing rumours suggesting he once had a romantic relationship with his late colleague, Allwell Ademola, a speculation that had circulated for years within the Yoruba film industry.
In a recent interview, Salami firmly denied the allegations and spoke about the nature of his relationship with the late actress, who passed away in December 2025.
He explained that he largely ignored the rumours despite their widespread circulation. According to him, Ademola herself once reached out to ask if he was aware of what people were saying about them.
Salami recalled telling her that he had not heard anything of such and that he does not pay attention to gossip.
“I told her I did not hear about it, and I truly do not listen to people,” he said.
He added that public speculation has never influenced how he relates with colleagues or friends, stressing that he sees no reason to be bothered by such claims.
However, Salami made it clear that his marriage comes first, noting that he would have stepped back from the friendship if his wife had ever expressed discomfort.
“If my wife says she was not comfortable with our relationship, I would withdraw because she is the only person I am answerable to,” he stated.
Beyond addressing the rumours, Salami also reflected on Ademola’s passing, describing it as a painful and unexpected loss.
Reports say Allwell Ademola died in December 2025 at the age of 49 after suffering cardiac arrest at her home.
Salami noted that while she had an existing health condition, her death still came as a shock to those close to her. He also revealed that she was asthmatic and always carried her inhaler.
“It is cardiac arrest, and that could happen to anyone,” he added, saying he believes her passing was simply her time.
His comments have since generated reactions from fans and colleagues, many of whom continue to celebrate Ademola’s impact on the Nigerian film industry.
