The House of Representatives has officially filled its vacant opposition leadership seat following a formal announcement by the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, during Thursday’s plenary session.
Hon. Fred Agbedi, a seasoned lawmaker representing the Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is now the “New Minority Leader” of the 10th House of Representatives.
Speaker Abbas communicated the development to lawmakers, signaling a definitive resolution to the leadership gaps within the minority caucus.
Agbedi takes over the crucial legislative role amid ongoing efforts by opposition parties to build a more formidable and cohesive front in the lower chamber.
His appointment comes after weeks of intense horse-trading, consultations, and strategic alignments among the various opposition parties that make up the minority block.
Lawmakers from the opposition camp have largely welcomed the choice, expressing optimism that Agbedi’s wealth of experience in parliamentary affairs will bring stability, foster unity, and strengthen checks and balances against the ruling majority.
