The rich cultural heritage of Lekki Kingdom came alive on Saturday as sons, daughters, residents and friends of the community gathered for the colourful celebration of Ojude Oba Onilekki 2026 in honour of the Onilekki of Lekki Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Liasim Olumuyiwa Ogunbekun.
The event attracted traditional chiefs, community leaders, youth groups, cultural enthusiasts and distinguished guests from within and outside Lekki, showcasing the customs, values and traditions that define the identity of the people.
Representing the Executive Arm of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), the Executive Chairman, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali, joined other dignitaries in paying homage to the monarch and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the community.
The celebration featured colourful cultural displays, traditional music, dance performances and symbolic processions that reflected the history, pride and communal spirit of Lekki Kingdom.
Speaking at the event, Kasali described culture as an important tool for strengthening unity and preserving the identity of a people.
“Culture remains a powerful tool for preserving our identity, promoting unity and fostering community development. Events such as Ojude Oba Onilekki provide an opportunity for us to celebrate our shared values and strengthen the bonds that hold our community together,” he said.
The chairman commended the organisers and the royal palace for sustaining a tradition that continues to bring generations together while projecting the rich cultural heritage of Lekki to a wider audience.
The event also provided an avenue for residents and stakeholders to interact, celebrate their common heritage and honour the institution of traditional leadership in the kingdom.
