Kwara Lawmakers Back Assembly Speaker As APC Guber Candidate

Members of the Kwara State House of Assembly have endorsed the speaker, Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu as the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) for the 2027 governorship election.
The legislators also dismissed reports suggesting that a gubernatorial primary election had not been conducted to pick the APC’s candidate for the election.
They made their position known during a press briefing at the Assembly Complex in Ilorin, the state capital.
Addressing journalists on behalf of the legislators, the majority leader of the Assembly, Hon. Abdulkadri Magaji, described reports of a purported primary election not conducted within the APC in the state as false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary tension within the party.
They insisted that primary election has been conducted by the APC to elect a governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Kwara State.
The lawmakers said their endorsement of Danladi-Salihu was a demonstration of confidence in his leadership qualities, legislative experience and contributions to the development of the state.
They urged party members and the public to disregard rumours of primary election process not conducted, stressing that the party followed due process and its constitutional provisions for candidate selection.
The legislators reaffirmed their commitment to the unity and progress of the APC in the state and pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at advancing good governance and development in the state.
They called on party stakeholders to remain focused on strengthening the party ahead of future political activities rather than engaging in divisive speculations.
They assured President Bola Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of support ahead of the 2027 election.
