The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a suspect for the alleged adulteration, repackaging, and sale of expired powdered milk, deemed harmful to public health, in the Funtua Local Government Area of the state.
The Command disclosed that the suspect, Ibrahim Moh’d, was arrested on 14 June 2026, at about 11:30 a.m., by operatives attached to the Makera Police Division during a surveillance patrol based on credible intelligence.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the suspect was intercepted while in possession of ten bags of powdered milk suspected to be expired and unfit for human consumption.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly mixed the expired milk with genuine stock before repackaging the adulterated product in counterfeit packaging materials for sale to unsuspecting members of the public.
“The suspect, fully aware of the toxic and compromised state of the product, deliberately mixed the expired powdered milk with genuine stock and subsequently repackaged the adulterated mixture into new packaging in an attempt to deceive consumers,” the police spokesperson stated.
The recovered products have been secured as exhibits, and the suspect remains in police custody pending the conclusion of the investigation.
The Command said the suspect would be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction upon completion of the investigation.
Police authorities noted that the alleged offences contravene Sections 152 and 154 of the Penal Code Law 2021 (as amended), which prohibit the sale of noxious food and drinks, food adulteration, and the sale of products that do not correspond with their commercial description.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, warned traders, wholesalers, and business owners against engaging in practices that endanger public health and safety.
He reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on the production, distribution, and sale of substandard or harmful goods, stressing that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious commercial activities to the nearest police station, assuring residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and public welfare.
