The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has expelled 365 students for allegedly gaining admission into the institution with falsified academic credentials.
According to a statement issued by the Polytechnic’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Mr Yemi Ajibola, the affected students, who were enrolled in various Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes, were discovered to have submitted fake National Diploma (ND) results and forged academic transcripts from different institutions to secure admission.
Ajibola said the expulsions followed a comprehensive verification exercise conducted by the institution to authenticate credentials submitted during the admission and registration processes.
He explained that the decision was part of the Polytechnic’s efforts to sanitise the academic system and enforce its zero-tolerance policy against fraudulent practices and academic misconduct.
A breakdown of the affected students showed that 156 were from the School of Communication and Information Technology, 117 from the School of Business and Management Studies, 54 from the School of Science and Technology, 36 from the School of Engineering, and two from the School of Environmental Studies.
The Rector of the institution, Arc. Dr Koye Jolaoso was quoted in the statement as warning prospective applicants and admission seekers against the use of fake academic credentials to gain admission.
According to him, the action underscores the institution’s commitment to upholding academic integrity, promoting excellence and repositioning the 47-year-old Polytechnic as a model of transparency, credibility and professionalism in tertiary education.
“The decisive action reflects the Polytechnic’s commitment to academic integrity and its resolve to maintain the highest standards in its admission processes,” the statement noted.
The institution reaffirmed its determination to continue verifying academic credentials and taking appropriate action against anyone found to have engaged in admission-related fraud.
