The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) says it has secured a commitment from the management of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic to address allegations surrounding the handling of student loan disbursements under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), signalling a possible breakthrough in a controversy that has drawn national attention.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the student body had intensified engagements with relevant stakeholders following complaints by students who alleged irregularities in the disbursement of loan funds.
According to the statement, the institution’s management has reached out to the leadership of NANS as efforts continue to resolve concerns raised by affected students.
The student body said its position remains that any resolution must prioritise the interests of students and restore confidence in the federal government’s student loan programme.
The development is subsequent to earlier allegations involving the management of the Ogun State-owned institution and questions over the administration of funds released through NELFUND.

The intervention places renewed scrutiny on the implementation of the federal government’s student loan initiative, a programme designed to ease financial burdens on students in tertiary institutions.
The scheme has been widely regarded as one of the flagship education support programmes of the current administration, thereby making concerns over transparency and accountability particularly significant.
Although the management of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic has not publicly responded to the latest claims, NANS urged students to remain calm and avoid actions that could complicate the ongoing efforts to secure redress.
The association also revealed that it had received calls from various authorities interested in ensuring that the objectives of the loan scheme are not undermined.
