The National President of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) Comrade Olubodun Olalekan, has commended the Ogun State Commands of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) in the state for their professionalism in managing both confirmed and rumoured cases of banditry and kidnapping in Ogun.
In a statement signed on behalf of Ogun State students at home and in the diaspora, Olalekan said the security agencies have shown restraint, accuracy, and a high level of coordination in addressing security concerns.
He acknowledged that the approach has helped prevent panic and maintained public confidence.
Olalekan observed that while there have been genuine security incidents in parts of the country, police and the DSS commands have been proactive in separating verified threats from unconfirmed reports.
He added that this has allowed the agencies to respond effectively without escalating tension among residents and students.
The student leader added that the visible presence of personnel, prompt public communication, and collaboration with community stakeholders have contributed to a safer environment for learning and daily activities.
“Such professionalism is critical at a time when misinformation can spread quickly on social media”, Olubodun pointed out.
He urged the police and DSS to sustain the current level of vigilance and intelligence-led operations.
According to him, “continuous engagement with student bodies and youth groups would further strengthen trust and improve early reporting of suspicious activities”.
Olalekan also called on students across Ogun State to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate with security agencies, stressing “responsible conduct from the public would complement the efforts of the security forces in keeping the state safe”.
The NAOSS president declared that the Association remains committed to supporting initiatives that enhance peace and security in Ogun State.
He expressed confidence that the ongoing professionalism displayed by the police and DSS would continue to protect lives, property, and the academic environment.
