Nigerian Army Trains Officers On Safe Corridor To Enhance Knowledge On Conflict Resolution, Peace Building

The Nigerian Army Armour School (NAAS) conducted an enhanced study tour for students of Young Officers’ Course 59/26 to Operation SAFE CORRIDOR in Gombe State on 15 June 2026.
The tour was aimed at broadening the students’ understanding of contemporary conflict resolution mechanisms, particularly the processes of Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DRR) in support of national security objectives.
The study tour provided the young officers with firsthand exposure to the operations, mandate and achievements of Operation SAFE CORRIDOR, a Federal Government initiative established to facilitate the Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration of repentant former Boko Haram members into society.
The visit formed part of the School’s commitment to developing professionally competent officers with a comprehensive understanding of both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to conflict management. In his welcome address, the Coordinator of Operation SAFE CORRIDOR, Brigadier General Yusuf Ali, highlighted the objectives and activities of the DRR programme.
He informed the visiting officers that they would be taken through the various facilities within the camp and receive detailed briefings from members of the assessment team to enable them to gain practical insights into the implementation and impact of the programme. Speaking during the visit, the Camp Commandant of Operation SAFE CORRIDOR, Colonel Mohammed Bello, delivered a comprehensive brief on the operation’s mandate, organisational structure, key activities and achievements recorded since inception.
He further outlined the camp’s administrative framework, logistical arrangements, contributions of various government agencies and stakeholders supporting the programme.
Speaking at the conclusion of the tour, the Commandant NAAS, Major General Abubakar Ahmed, commended the management and staff of Operation SAFE CORRIDOR for their unwavering commitment to promoting national peace, reconciliation and stability through the successful reintegration of rehabilitated ex-combatants into society.
He noted that the exposure would significantly enhance the professional development of the student officers and deepen their appreciation of modern conflict resolution and post-conflict stabilisation strategies within the context of contemporary military operations.
The visit featured an interactive question-and-answer session during which the student officers engaged officials of Operation SAFE CORRIDOR on various aspects of the DRR programme, its challenges and achievements. The tour concluded with an inspection of camp facilities and a group photograph with officials and staff of the camp.
