NNL: Gov Diri sacks Bayelsa United management, players after relegation

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has dissolved the board and management of Nigeria National League, NNL, side Bayelsa United.
The governor also sacked all players after the club’s relegation from the 2025-26 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, despite what officials described as huge financial backing from the state government.
The actions were taken to hold the club accountable for its performance.
The governor’s directive takes immediate effect as the state government begin the restructuring of the club ahead of its campaign in the lower division.
A new management team is expected to be announced in the coming days.
Bayelsa United, El-Kanemi Warriors, Wikki Tourists and Remo Stars were relegated from the NPFL last season.
