No Parallel Group, All Donations Must Come Directly To The Party – NDC Tells Obidient, Kwankwasiya Members

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says the party is not a personality cult or a special purpose vehicle that can be “used and discarded.”

NDC national publicity secretary, Osa Director, in a statement on Sunday, said the national executive committee (NEC) at a meeting in Abuja, reaffirmed that the “party is supreme, and programmes, policies, and appointments by governments elected on its platform must be made in consultation with the party.”

He said party members are expected to align their personal interests with those of the party.

“All affiliated groups and NGOs shall operate under the guidance and control of the party and must not function in parallel with, or independently of, the party structure,” Director said.

“A comprehensive Code of Conduct shall be established for all party officials and candidates. To this end, a committee has been constituted under the leadership of the National Legal Adviser to develop the framework and guidelines.”

Director said the party has inaugurated a national reconciliation committee to reconcile aggrieved members.

Some aspirants had accused the NDC of imposing candidates for various elective positions during the party’s nationwide primaries.

The NDC spokesperson said the party is “being built as an institution, not a personality cult, political movement, or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be used and discarded”.

“Members are encouraged to remain committed to the party and contribute to its growth and sustainability for generations to come,” he said.

The NDC national publicity secretary said the party would enforce transparency in all funds received, noting that candidates at all levels are required to fully disclose the funds they source and the contributions made to their campaign accounts.

“On financial probity, the party will enforce strict accountability in the management of party resources by all officers, and party funds must be used strictly for party business,” he said.

Director added that all campaign funds must be channelled through designated party accounts, including those for presidential and gubernatorial campaigns, where applicable.
