President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Afam Osigwe, has emphasized the importance of rule of law to sustainable development.
He spoke at the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Law and Development Summit, where he said that although infrastructure, technology, and financial resources are important for development, the law is the most essential part that supports real progress.
“Without the law, there would be problems that can’t be fixed, money invested without safety, and progress without a clear path,” he said.
Osigwe noted that the law gives the “structure needed to ensure fairness, responsibility, right treatment, steady growth, and trust for people who invest”.
The NBA President also said that the “law is the most important part of how a democracy works. It shows ideas like the government being run by the people, for the people, and the ideas of separating different parts of government and making sure they check each other.”
He emphasized that “laws need to be more than just written down, they must be put into action to help fix problems, make things fair, promote success, and ensure that everyone has a chance to grow”.
