The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that it will temporarily suspend its Kajola–Apapa passenger train service for three weeks from July 6 to carry out scheduled maintenance on its locomotives and coaches.
According to the corporation, the last passenger service before the maintenance break will operate on July 3.
The NRC, however, assured customers that freight operations to and from the Apapa Port Complex, as well as services to other train terminals on the narrow and standard gauge corridors, would continue without interruption throughout the maintenance period.
To minimise the impact on commuters, the corporation advised passengers to use its Lagos Mass Transit Train (LMTT) services, which operate every weekday from Monday to Friday.
Under the LMTT schedule, morning services depart Ijoko at 6:30 a.m. and Kajola at 7:00 a.m. for Iddo, while evening return services leave Iddo at 5:30 p.m. for Ijoko and 6:15 p.m. for Kajola.
The NRC encouraged commuters to take advantage of the alternative services while maintenance work is ongoing.
In a statement, the Managing Director of the corporation, Dr Kayode Opeifa, said the maintenance exercise is aimed at ensuring the safety, reliability and efficiency of train operations.
He thanked passengers for their patience, understanding and continued patronage, reaffirming the corporation’s commitment to providing safe, reliable and efficient rail transport services across the country.
