The National Youth Corps Members (NYSC) deployed to Ogun State for the 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation course have been warned against allowing strangers to use their mobile phones.
The State Government urged corps members to avoid permitting others to transact through their bank accounts, or accepting gifts from questionable sources, as the state government raised fresh concerns over security and criminal infiltration.
NYSC, is a one year madatory youth service for all Nigerian gradautes which aimed to improve inter-cultural person relationship among applicants.
The warning formed the centrepiece of the address delivered on Monday at the formal opening and swearing-in ceremony of the orientation course held at the Ogun NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Shagamu.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, urged the newly sworn-in corps members to view personal security as a collective responsibility, establishing that seemingly harmless actions could expose them to criminal investigations or make them unwitting accomplices in unlawful activities.
He cautioned that allowing strangers access to personal phones, bank accounts, and other sensitive resources had become increasingly risky in the current security climate.
While urging corps members to remain vigilant throughout their service year, he said, “As educated individuals, we play a vital role in our collective security architecture.”
The warning reflects growing concerns among security agencies over the use of unsuspecting individuals’ identities, bank accounts and communication devices by criminal networks involved in fraud, cybercrime and other illegal operations.
Besides the conventional security advice, the governor’s representative drew attention to what he described as everyday decisions capable of carrying legal and security consequences.

He warned corps members against boarding vehicles from unauthorised parks, accepting unsolicited gifts from unfamiliar persons, and maintaining close associations with individuals engaged in criminal activities.
According to him, such actions could place innocent persons under suspicion when law enforcement agencies eventually move against criminal suspects.
The security message came moments after corps members took the Oath of Allegiance administered by Justice Adetokunbo Jibodu, who represented the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu.
The ceremony marked the formal induction of 4,083 corps members into national service in Ogun State.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Olayinka Diana Nasamu, disclosed that the figure comprised 1,844 males and 2,239 females.
She said 3,260 corps members were deployed directly to Ogun State, while 823 were dislodged from Lagos State.
While congratulating the corps members on completing their academic programmes, Nasamu urged them to take the orientation course seriously, particularly the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.
She argued that dependence on salaried employment was becoming increasingly unrealistic in a changing economy and encouraged participants to acquire practical skills capable of supporting self-employment after service.
The governor’s representative also reminded corps members of their expected role during future elections.
He urged them to remain neutral and resist attempts by political actors to involve them in electoral malpractice, misinformation, or violence.
He said the oath taken during the swearing-in ceremony should serve as a commitment to discipline, integrity, and responsible citizenship throughout the service year.
