The Osun State Police Command has advised all political parties, candidates and supporters to suspend planned political gatherings, rallies, campaigns and processions in Oriade Local Government Area.
The command said the directive followed credible intelligence reports and security concerns within the local government area, prompting the Commissioner of Police to recommend the postponement of all political activities to a later date.
The Accord, DAILY POST, gathered, was set to organise a political rally in Ijebu-Jesa, the headquarters of the local government on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
The rally, it was also gathered, did not sit well with the All Progressives Congress, APC, who were allegedly spoiling for a war.
According to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi on Tuesday, the measure was taken to prevent any possible breach of peace and ensure public safety.
The statement noted that all political stakeholders were expected to comply with the advisory in the interest of maintaining law and order in the area.
The police explained that efforts by the command to promote peace among the political parties had not yielded the desired result, resulting in a deadlock during engagements with concerned stakeholders.
“The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, advises all political parties to postpone their planned political gatherings, rallies, campaigns, processions, and all other political-related activities scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 10th June, 2026 within Oriade Local Government Area to a new date,” the statement said.
The command added that the decision was a proactive step aimed at preventing any breakdown of law and order while safeguarding lives and property across the council area.
It disclosed that a peace meeting earlier convened by the Commissioner of Police with the concerned political parties could not hold.
Reaffirming its commitment to security, the command urged residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all residents and urges members of the public to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies,” the statement said.
