Oyo Abduction: Makinde Imposes 16-Hour Curfew In 10 LGAs

The Oyo State Government has imposed a 16-hour curfew on 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park following growing security concerns, including recent abduction incidents reported in parts of the state.

The directive was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, who disclosed that the governor had approved the restriction as part of efforts to strengthen security and maintain public order in the affected communities.

According to the statement, the curfew will take effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and will run daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

The government said the measure would remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours, adding that it was aimed at addressing security challenges and ensuring the safety of residents in communities surrounding the national park.

The local government areas affected by the curfew are Oriire, Oorelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.

The statement noted that security agencies had been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the order while safeguarding the rights of law-abiding residents.

Residents of the affected areas were urged to comply fully with the directive and cooperate with security operatives in the interest of peace and security.

“The curfew is a proactive measure designed to enhance security and maintain public order in the affected communities,” the government stated.

It added that the decision was taken in the overall interest of public safety and assured residents that the state government remained committed to protecting lives and property across Oyo State.

The government further appealed to members of the public to remain calm, vigilant and supportive of ongoing security efforts while the restriction remains in force.
