As rumour of planned attacks on some schools in Minna, the state capital and other Local Government Areas (LGAs) spreads, Niger state Police Command has dispelled claims of attacks in some schools tagging it as, ‘false and misleading’, aimed at causing fear and panic.
“Reports circulating in public space, alleging that schools in Kpakungu, Bosso, Sabon-Wuse and Lambata areas were attacked by hoodlums are false”, the police in a statement signed by, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the PRO
Niger state Command said.
“The Command hereby states categorically that, having visited all the schools mentioned in these areas, no such attack occurred in any school within the state”.
The statement urged members of the public to disregard the false information which according to the PPRO is suspected to have originated from mischief makers to cause panic and fear in public space and school environment.
Intelligence investigations, the PPRO further explained has commenced to unravel the source of the false report, identify and arrest all those behind the mischief.
Abiodun also hinted that the state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman had earlier directed all the DPOs to work closely with school administrators within their domain line with school protection initiatives and to ensure police visibility patrols around schools for safety of students, staff and host communities.

Our correspondent however reports that rumours of attack on some schools caused panic in some parts of Minna the state capital as some mothers stopped their wards from going to school while others rushed to school to withdraw their children before closing hours for fear of the unknown.
Unconfirmed source also had it that the panic was caused by the influx of suspected armed bandits into Minna metropolis from their hideouts at Maikunkele area.
A resident of the area told our correspondent in confidence how some of the terrorists keep their wives and children in choice houses behind the NAF base Maikunkele while they engage in their criminal activities in neighbouring distant villages and forests.
