The Kano State Police Command has arrested 345 suspects and recovered 270 dangerous weapons during a three-day statewide crackdown on criminal hideouts and black spots across the state.
The operation, which covered all 44 local government areas, was described as part of ongoing efforts to curb thuggery and drug-related crimes.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano, saying the exercise was intelligence-driven and coordinated across multiple units of the Command.
“The Command conducted a coordinated clearance operation across all 44 Local Government Areas from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th June 2026,” Bakori said. “We targeted identified black spots, criminal hideouts, and drug distribution points.”
According to him, those arrested include suspected thugs, drug peddlers, and individuals found with offensive weapons. He added that all 345 suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be prosecuted where evidence permits.
The police also confirmed the recovery of 270 weapons, including cutlasses, knives, clubs, and other dangerous implements. In addition, a quantity of suspected illicit drugs such as Cannabis Sativa, Exol tablets, and a locally known substance called “Suck and Die” was seized.
Bakori noted that the success of the operation was supported by ongoing initiatives such as Operation Kukan Kura and the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), which he said have improved visibility, policing and rapid response capabilities.
“Operation Kukan Kura has enhanced our visibility policing and reduced response time to distress calls,” he stated. “The VCRU has strengthened our tactical response to violent crime and gang activities.”
The Commissioner warned criminal elements to steer clear of the state, stressing that sustained pressure would continue until crime is significantly reduced. He also credited residents for providing useful intelligence that aided the operation.
He further assured that the Command would maintain aggressive operations across the state, while calling on the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
