Police Rescue Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Sons After Kidnap; Two Suspects Killed

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the successful rescue of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, following their abduction in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The victims were rescued during a coordinated operation carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) on Saturday evening, June 6, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DSP Anthony Placid, the rescue operation followed several days of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical tracking of the kidnappers.

Mrs. Adegoke and her children were reportedly kidnapped on June 3, 2026, while she was driving the twins to school in Ibadan at about 7:30 a.m.

The police said investigators monitored the movements of the abductors and eventually traced them to a location where FID-IRT operatives engaged the suspects in a confrontation.

During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while security operatives recovered two rifles from the scene. The victims were rescued unharmed and have since been placed under medical observation and care.

“The rescue was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations,” the statement said. “These efforts enabled investigators to track the kidnappers’ movements, resulting in a confrontation with FID-IRT operatives.”

The Inspector-General of Police commended the officers involved in the operation, praising their professionalism, bravery, and commitment to ensuring the safe return of the victims.

The police also disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping gang who escaped during the operation. Preliminary intelligence suggests that some of the fleeing suspects sustained gunshot injuries.

Security agencies have intensified search operations in the area, with investigators working to track down and arrest all individuals connected to the abduction.

The Nigeria Police Force thanked members of the public for their cooperation and support throughout the operation and reaffirmed its commitment to tackling violent crimes, protecting lives and property, and enhancing public safety across the country.
