A former President-General of Ifitedunu Community in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, High Chief Samuel Nweke, has criticized the publication of details relating to an ongoing court case by his successor, Mr. Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha, describing the action as a disregard for judicial processes.
Speaking with journalists in Ifitedunu, Nweke argued that public commentary on a matter already before a competent court could amount to interference with the judicial process. He specifically faulted a media publication in which Oragwuncha reportedly announced that businessman Chief Vincent Udobi and 11 others would be arraigned in court on June 19, 2026.
According to Nweke, the publication was premature as the matter remains before the court for determination. He maintained that the allegations made against Chief Udobi and the other defendants were yet to be tested in court and should not be presented as facts.
Nweke further alleged that the crisis that engulfed Ifitedunu Community occurred during Oragwuncha’s tenure as President-General, claiming that the period was marked by serious disputes that led to violence and loss of lives. He stated that evidence exists to support his claims.
The former community leader also recalled a previous legal dispute involving Oragwuncha and Chief Udobi. According to him, Oragwuncha had in the past accused Udobi of sponsoring individuals to harm him, but was unable to substantiate the allegation in court.
Responding to claims by Oragwuncha that he suffered physical injuries, including damage to his spinal cord, Nweke challenged him to provide evidence to support the assertion. He insisted that Oragwuncha was not involved in the incident he referenced, maintaining that another individual, identified as Nnamdi Abaeze, had issues with community youths at the time.
Nweke also linked the origin of the dispute to disagreements over market stall projects at Nkwo-Ifitedunu Market. He alleged that community stakeholders, including village chairmen and members of the Igwe-in-Council, had objected to the project, leading to tensions within the community.
He further accused Oragwuncha of failing to account for certain community assets, including a Toyota Sienna vehicle allegedly acquired for the Ifitedunu Town Union during his administration.
Expressing concern over the ongoing litigation, Nweke said efforts were previously made to resolve the matter through alternative dispute resolution, but those attempts did not succeed. He alleged that Oragwuncha demanded substantial compensation as part of settlement discussions.
Nweke also claimed that Oragwuncha’s removal from office was linked to dissatisfaction with his leadership style, adding that he had been involved in several legal disputes within the community.
Defending Chief Vincent Udobi, Nweke described him as a philanthropist who has supported residents through educational assistance, healthcare interventions, and empowerment programmes. He urged members of the public to allow the court to determine the issues before it and refrain from concluding ahead of the judicial process.
The case involving the parties remains pending before the High Court of Anambra State.
