A media aide to Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Lere Olayinka, has been criticised by Nigerians for allegedly leaking voter Emeka Ike’s data through an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) admin webpage.
The controversy erupted after voter registration details belonging to the Nollywood surfaced online shortly after he announced plans to contest a House of Representatives seat in the FCT.
The records, shared by Olayinka on X on Saturday, were alleged to have originated from INEC’s restricted administrative portal.
“Emeka Ike was a registered voter in Imo State. He only transferred his INEC Registration to the FCT on May 15, 2026 (15 days ago).
“And he wants to contest for House of Reps in Abuja!
“Someone who has never voted in the FCT o. What happened to his Imo State,” the Olayinka wrote in his X tweet.
In some of the images which accompanied the tweet, some personal data of Ike, which included his application number, registration centre, Voter’s Identification Number (VIN), profile picture, name and date of application were seen.
Meanwhile, since the tweet surfaced, Nigerians have called on INEC to clarify how the FCT media aide allegedly got access to their server.
A Facebook user, Oluwakayode Ogundamisi, while reacting, wrote, “Dear INEC Nigeria,
Can you please explain how Lere Olayinka was able to access the backend of what is supposed to be a secure portal available to authorised staff of your Independent National Electoral Commission?
“This is a serious matter that raises concerns about the integrity and security of the system. It should not be swept under the carpet, and the public deserves a clear explanation.”
An X user, @collinzTweet, wrote, “If the ruling party can sit in their house, log into INEC’s backend and know exactly who is transferring their PVC, when they applied, and where they’re moving to, then no opposition strategy is safe.
2027 is no longer about party.”
