United States President Donald Trump has, for the second time in two weeks, urged gasoline retailers, also known as petrol retailers, to lower their prices.
Trump made this known in his official Truth Social on Monday night.
The US president noted that gasoline prices are too high considering that crude oil prices are now at $68 per barrel.
Trump warned that there would not be price gouging, which he described as ‘totally illegal’.
According to him, gasoline should act on his statement and do what is right for the American people.
He warned that failure by retailers to lower their price will attract ‘big problems’.
Trump suggested that gasoline retailers should start targeting a $2.50 a gallon number, which is 3.785 litres, that is N910 per litre in naira.
“Gasoline retailers must get their prices down IMMEDIATELY! They’re too high considering that oil is now at $68 a barrel and heading south. The retailers must quickly react to this statement and do what they know is right.
“DROP YOUR PRICE FOR OUR GREAT AMERICAN PEOPLE! There will be no gauging, which is totally illegal. If retailers don’t do this, big problems lie ahead! Start targeting around the $2.50 a gallon number, and California should stop charging such heavy taxes on their petrol.
“Soon the tax will be higher than the product itself, and the United States will not stand for it, nor will the people of California, who are being abused by these ridiculous taxes and by their own government. “President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he wrote on Truth Social.
Recall Trump had earlier made a similar demand last week targeted at big US oil firms.
DAILY POST reports that Nigerians have also clamoured for a drop in the fuel price to below N1,000 per litre following the drop in crude oil prices.
