PORT HARCOURT — Human rights activist and National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Prince Wiro, has demanded justice for a football coach, Mr. Daso Ogan, who was allegedly assaulted, tortured and publicly paraded by members of a local vigilante group, OSPAC, in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Wiro called for the immediate release of Ogan from the Igwuruta Police Division, urging security agencies to arrest and prosecute all OSPAC members allegedly involved in the incident.
Ogan, a native of Okrika, was reportedly accused of magically causing the disappearance of another man’s manhood on Monday, June 22, 2026, an allegation that led to his detention and alleged assault by members of the vigilante group.
Condemning the incident, Wiro described the said torture and public humiliation of the coach as a gross violation of his fundamental human rights.
“I condemn the alleged physical assault, torture and public parade of Mr. Daso Ogan by members of OSPAC in Igwuruta over allegations that he caused another man’s manhood to disappear through magical means on June 22, 2026,” Wiro said.
According to Wiro, a viral video circulating on social media showed the victim being subjected to degrading treatment, an act he said violated his constitutional right to dignity.
Wiro further disclosed that he had spoken with the Chairman of Kirike Central Community Development Committee (CDC) in Okrika, Mr. Golden Ogan, and another family member, Mr. Timothy Ogan, who confirmed that the victim sustained serious injuries during the assault.
“They confirmed that members of OSPAC inflicted severe injuries on Daso, including breaking his head. The victim could have suffered even more serious harm if not for the timely intervention of officers from the Igwuruta Police Division,” he stated.
The rights advocate further dismissed claims that an individual could magically steal or cause the disappearance of another person’s manhood through touch, a handshake or supernatural means, noting that such allegations lack medical and scientific basis.
Meanwhile, the victim’s brother, Isaac Ogan, has accused members of the vigilante group of subjecting Daso to a brutal attack before police officers intervened.
Isaac maintained that the allegations against his brother were baseless and unsupported by law.
“What OSPAC did is unfair because you cannot accuse someone of such an offence without evidence.
“In the eyes of the law, allegations of mystical disappearance of human organs have no legal basis. There is no justification for accusing someone of stealing another person’s manhood and then subjecting him to mob assault.
“My brother was accused of taking someone’s manhood in Igwuruta. When we received the information, we immediately rushed to the police station. It was there we discovered that OSPAC members had apprehended him, severely beaten him and inflicted injuries on his head before the police intervened and brought the situation under control,” he said.
He further alleged that the intervention of police officers may have saved his brother’s life, insisting that those responsible for the assault should face prosecution.
“As I speak, I demand the prosecution of the OSPAC commander and all members involved in this incident.
“They should be arrested and made to face the law,” he added.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, stating that Daso Ogan was rescued by officers of the Igwuruta Police Division, adding that investigations into the matter was ongoing.
