Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo Suffer Power Outage After TCN Transmission Line Fault

Residents of parts of Rivers, Bayelsa and Imo states are experiencing power outages following a forced outage on the Alaoji 132-kilovolt transmission line, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, TCN said the outage occurred at about 3:59 a.m. due to an earth fault and distance protection failure on the transmission line.

According to the company, the incident has affected electricity supply to customers served by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) in Owerri, Yenagoa and Ahoada.

TCN said its maintenance crew had been deployed to the affected line and was working to restore normal bulk power supply as quickly as possible.

The statement read:

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) wishes to inform the public that there was a forced outage on the Alaoji 132kV Transmission Line at about 3:59 a.m. today, Tuesday, June 23, 2026, due to an earth fault and distance protection failure.”

The company added that PHEDC had been unable to off-take electricity supply for distribution to customers in the affected areas.

TCN apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured consumers that efforts were underway to restore power.
