Rachael Alamu, an abducted principal of Community high school, Ahoro-Esiele in Oriire LGA of Oyo State has appealed to the government and Nigerians not to politicise the situation surrounding her abduction and that of other victims still in captivity.
In a fresh video message released on Monday, Alamu, who has spent about 24 days in captivity, made an emotional plea, urging Nigerians to focus on securing the release of abducted pupils and teachers rather than spreading claims she described as misleading.
She alleged that some media reports had distorted the situation by linking the abductors to demands for ₦1 billion ransom and the imposition of Sharia law, insisting such claims were false.
“Good day everyone. Please, I have come to make some clarifications. Today makes it the 24th day that we have been in this place. It seems that some people are making our problem more complicated,” she said.
According to her, the focus of those holding them is not on religious or monetary demands as being circulated online, but on negotiations involving the release of some of their members.
Alamu further urged Nigerians to circulate her message widely, insisting that her life and those of other abductees should not be subjected to political interpretation.
“Please, don’t play politics with our lives. Nigerians, please help us to circulate this. Let it go viral,” she pleaded.
She also called on government authorities to consider negotiation as a means of securing their freedom, stressing that forceful approaches may worsen their situation.
The abduction, which involved over 40 pupils and teachers from schools in the Oriire area on May 15, 2026, has continued to generate nationwide concern over insecurity and the safety of schoolchildren in Nigeria.
