Three former members of the All Progressives Congress in the Osun State House of Assembly have resigned their membership of the party, in a move that has further stirred political reactions within the state chapter of the party.
The former lawmakers Lekan Oyediran, Aleem Bakare, and Folorunso Oladoyin reportedly submitted their resignation letters between June 1 and 2, addressed to their respective local government APC chairmen.
While Bakare cited lack of internal democracy as his reason for leaving the party, Oyediran and Oladoyin did not publicly state specific reasons for their departure in their resignation letters.
The trio are former influential figures in the Osun political structure. Oyediran represented Odo Otin State Constituency between 1999 and 2003, while Bakare served as lawmaker for Ejigbo State Constituency from 2003 to 2007. Oladoyin represented Ife South State Constituency between 2011 and 2019 and later served as Commissioner for Education under the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
Bakare also previously served as Special Adviser on Land Matters in the same administration.
The resignations have been linked to political realignments within the camp associated with former Osun State Deputy Governor, Iyiola Omisore, although associates insist the development is not directly tied to his political decisions.
Speaking on the development, spokesperson for the Omisore Campaign Organisation, Jamiu Olawumi, confirmed that the affected politicians were close allies of the former deputy governor but denied claims that Omisore instructed them to leave the APC.
He maintained that the decision to exit the party was personal and based on individual political considerations rather than any coordinated directive.
Olawumi also dismissed speculation that Omisore himself may be preparing to defect from the APC, insisting that such claims were unfounded and politically motivated.
Reacting to the development, Osun APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, said the party was not worried by the resignations, describing them as part of the normal exercise of freedom of association in a democratic system.
He argued that the party had continued to receive prominent defectors from other political platforms and therefore would not be distracted by the exit of a few members.
According to him, the APC remains focused on strengthening its structures and preparing for future elections, stressing that internal movements within the party should not be interpreted as a crisis.
The resignations add to the ongoing political realignments in Osun State, where parties are already positioning ahead of future electoral contests and consolidating their support bases across the state.
