Tinubu needs to question Akpabio over comments on insecurity – Sumner Sambo

The Director of News at Arise Television, Sumner Sambo, has lamented that Nigeria would not get to the root of its security challenges if Senate President Godswill Akpabio could attribute insecurity to the handiwork of the opposition.

Sambo said this on Monday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’.

He was reacting to a statement made by Akpabio, who said the insecurity in Nigeria is being sponsored by the opposition.

Akpabio had alleged that some political opponents of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are exploiting insecurity and other challenges to create a negative perception of the country.

Airing his own opinion, Sambo said, “For Akpabio to say that the opposition is sponsoring insecurity is reducing a serious issue to politics.

“Nigerian politicians do not take national security seriously. If the Senate president is also making these sorts of statements, we won’t get to the root of this problem.

“I think that reductionist approach by the President of the Senate needs to be questioned, even by President Bola Tinubu himself.

“If that is the inner thinking of the government, then I think we have a long way to go in the country, but if the head of the Nigerian parliament is actually reducing serious issues to political issues, I think we really have a long way to go, because I mean anyone could actually be a victim of this issue.

“So, I don’t think that the opposition politicians have their own military or police that they will be using to terrorise Nigerians, and then maybe those in government.”
