Troops Foil Terrorist Attack, Neutralise Two Insurgents in Yobe

The troops deployed in Yobe State have foiled an attempted attack by suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists and neutralised two insurgents during an operation in Gujba Local Government Area.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on June 9 when troops of the North-East Theatre Tactical Support (NETTS) detected suspected terrorists advancing towards their location in Buni Yadi.

According to the sources, the troops immediately engaged the approaching insurgents with coordinated fire missions to neutralise the threat and deny the terrorists freedom of action within the area.

Following the engagement, the troops conducted an exploitation operation around the scene to assess the outcome of the firefight.

The sources disclosed that two terrorist corpses were recovered during the operation, while one motorcycle believed to have been used by the insurgents was also seized.

The successful operation is part of ongoing military efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and prevent attacks on security formations and civilian communities across the North-East.

Troops have continued surveillance and clearance operations in the area to track other fleeing insurgents and consolidate recent operational gains.
