Moves to boost basic education delivery in the country have seen Universal Learning Solutions teaming up with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to unveil an affordable, top-notch Jolly Phonics study material into the school system.
The launch set for June 4, 2026, will see education stakeholders, including representatives from the Nigerian Copyright Commission, the National Association of Private School Owners, and directors and proprietors of schools nationwide, coming together to explore the benefits of jolly phonics can advance learning at the foundation level.
Jolly Phonics is a highly effective, child-centered synthetic phonics program that teaches children to read and write using a multi-sensory approach. Instead of just memorizing the alphabet, kids learn the 42 main letter sounds of English through fun stories, specific actions, and catchy songs.
The Universal Learning Solutions, in a statement on Wednesday, said it is poised to expand access to proven phonics resources for schools, teachers, and families across the country.
To support the launch, ULS will host a national webinar on Thursday, 4 June 2026, bringing together key education stakeholders from across Nigeria.

The new materials were initially showcased at the Nigerian International Book Fair 2026, held in Lagos from 13–15 May, where educators, publishers, school owners, and literacy stakeholders had the opportunity to explore the range and learn more about the initiative.
The launch builds on the remarkable success of Jolly Phonics in Nigerian government schools over the past decade through the support of State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
ULS noted that millions of children across Nigeria have benefited from structured phonics teaching programmes using Jolly Phonics approaches in classrooms nationwide.
It explained that the new initiative is designed to ensure that both public and private schools have access to internationally recognised literacy materials at significantly more affordable prices.
The webinar will introduce the newly available literacy resources, outline partnership opportunities, and explore how schools can implement effective Jolly Phonics teaching affordably and sustainably.
