President Donald Trump warned on June 10 that he would renew US attacks on Iran, saying Tehran had taken too long to agree a deal to end the Middle East war and accusing its negotiators of “playing us for suckers”.
The remarks came after Iran and the US once again traded fire following the downing of an American helicopter, further straining a ceasefire that took effect in April but has been marked by sporadic flare-ups of violence.
The exchange drew international calls for restraint on the eve of the World Cup, which the US is co-hosting and Iran is participating in, including from the head of the United Nations who cautioned against a return to “full war”.
On June 10, Trump also said the US military had secretly helped 100 million barrels of oil pass through the contested Strait of Hormuz.

The US military carried out a “precision” strike on a vessel in the Gulf of Oman that failed to follow its instructions and was carrying oil from Iran, it said, while India said three Indian seafarers were missing after the attack on the tanker.
The US began a blockade of Iran-related shipping on April 13 after Iran severely curtailed shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil and gas route.
The US military’s Central Command (Centcom) said a US aircraft “fired precision munitions into the ship’s engine room after the crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions from American forces”.

Deadly floods and landslides in Indonesia’s Sumatra in 2025 wiped out at least 7 per cent of the total population of the critically endangered Tapanuli orang utan, a new report released on June 10 showed.
The cyclone-induced floods and landslides killed at least 1,200 people and damaged around 300,000 homes, with environmental groups blaming the extent of the damage on the rapid deforestation of Sumatra island.
At least 58 Tapanuli orang utans, which are endemic to an area around north Sumatra’s Batang Toru forest, were killed in the floods, the report said, citing a survey of the western block of the forest that is home to a majority of the total population of 800 primates.

Bill Gates told members of Congress on June 10 that he “did not fully understand the extent” of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes when he associated with the late convicted sex offender to raise money for his philanthropic foundation.
Gates also testified that he never witnessed any criminal conduct from Epstein.
He accused Epstein of blackmailing him over his extramarital affairs.

A German model missing for almost 11 years is named in the Epstein files, heightening her family’s fears about her fate, German news weekly Der Spiegel reported on June 10.
The woman, only identified as “Michele”, left her family home in September 2015 when she was 22 and has not been heard of since, the report said.
She had long been in contact with a model recruiter named Daniel Siad, who had links to the late convicted sex offender.
