Yemen’s Houthis threaten Israel with “major, comprehensive” response if escalation in Lebanon continues

A senior leader of Yemen’s Houthi group on Tuesday threatened Israel with a “major and comprehensive” response if it continues its violations and military escalation in Lebanon.

The remarks were made by Mohammed Al-Farah, a member of the group’s political bureau, according to the Houthi-run Al Masirah television channel.

In late March, the Houthis joined the confrontation in support of Iran during the war involving Israel and the United States against Tehran, as well as in response to Israeli attacks in Lebanon.

The Israeli military has continued what Lebanon describes as deadly violations of the fragile ceasefire agreement, while a fourth round of talks between Beirut and Tel Aviv remains under way in Washington.

Al-Farah said: “The Israeli enemy must realise that any violation in Lebanon will be met with a response, and that its soldiers in the south will remain exposed to daily killings until they withdraw. Any escalation will be met with a major and comprehensive response.”

He added that “one of the factors that encouraged the Israeli enemy to continue its attacks was the 15-month period during which it bombed Lebanon without facing any response”.

Despite the ongoing talks between Tel Aviv and Beirut in Washington, 12 people were killed and 16 wounded in Israeli air strikes targeting several areas in southern Lebanon since dawn on Tuesday, according to Lebanese authorities.
