You Don’t Expect Soldiers To Risk Their Lives, Defend Nigeria On ₦100k Monthly Salary – Ndume 

Senator representing Borno South in the National Assembly, Ali Ndume, has spoken on the welfare of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Naijaonpoint reports that in an interview with Trust TV, he said many soldiers receive low salaries despite the dangerous nature of their duties.

According to him, a Nigerian Army soldier earns about ₦100,000 monthly, which he said is roughly equivalent to 80 US dollars.

The lawmaker argued that it is unfair to expect security personnel to risk their lives while receiving such a small amount.

Ali Ndume maintained that improving the welfare of military personnel should remain a priority, noting that better pay and conditions of service would help boost their commitment and strengthen the country’s fight against insecurity.

He said in the interview: “A Nigerian Army soldier earns about ₦100,000 every month, which is roughly equivalent to 80 US dollars. This level of pay is too low for people serving in the military, considering the dangers they face daily.

“It’s unreasonable to expect soldiers to risk their lives, defend the country, and confront security threats while receiving such a small salary. The government should improve the welfare and pay of military personnel so they are better motivated to carry out their duties.”
